Or with minimum things maybe a couple of large pebble shaped stones and a fake plant, kind of zen style look.

Try to find a plant (fake or real) that has a a broad leave that will reach just below the surface. Place it as far away from any water current if you have a filter moving the water. Your betta will make this his favorite hang out and will likely sit and sleep on that leaf.

I had a betta who liked long stringy plants, he prefered the stringy grass silk plant to any of the other plants in the tank :) maybe he was just weird tho, I'd go with what the experts say :)

My betta doesnt like plants :( He freaked when I put silk plants in his tank. He prefers large rocks.

Did you leave the plants in long enough for your Betta to get used to them? That could take several days. Some Bettas will freak but usually it's because they are startled by the sudden appearance of something big in the tank, their home that they thought they knew inside out. They need time to realize it won't hurt them and soon they usually accept it.

Just place some food flakes on a few of the leaves and they'll love the plant. :)

Would real plant survive in such a setup, no soil/sand just bare glass bottom.

Heres a nice minimalist style, without the gravel it would be nicer.

How often to change water in a filterless tank as seen above.
