How many water changes a week are we talking here? A filtered 2gal tank or not? 2gallons is generally accepted as a minimum for betta tanks as far as i'm aware, although when i used to have my betta i kept him in a 5gal for most of his life and then later a 10gal.
But i would say a betta would be fine in a 2gal as long as it has planting/decor, good water quality and the betta gets plenty of attention and a good varied diet- if its making bubble nests thats a good sign too as far as im aware . Bettas aern't very active fish by nature in comparsion to other small tropical fish, and are slow and types like crowntails, veiltails and other long tail types often tire easily- many have been bred in small tubs for so many decades they don't often fair well in tanks larger than 10gals..But i'm no betta expert, soo...
