ASE is offering prize money of 1800 Euro for the winners of this contest.

It's another free competition, why not give it a try?

Standard seems incredibly high. Still, you got to be in it to win it. :good:

This one blew me away.

The standards are high, but they are in every comp. The only way we/you/us become better scapers is to eneter comps like this. :good: I think it's also good for our forum if we eneter a few tanks.

This one requires non-published work, but the judging panel is another good one. Who know? Maybe...

There are ways around non published work, llj ;)

I see we haven't had a full front tank shot of your yet? I might enter my dutch scape in a few weeks get the growth going, i'm sure as long as the finished scape isn't published that, that doesn't count.

I've alreaady published this in my journal, Facebook and Photobucket...

Is it unpublished scapes or photos? If it's photos then that's easy to solve, just do another photoshoot, but if it's scapes, well then, forget it. I'm sorry, I like to do journals and I like to chronicle my progress so Newbies learn from my mistakes. I like seeing the Nuts and bolts of a scape and how it develops over time, not just the finished product. I like seeing the filters running and the water moving. I like seeing the hardware and stuff you used to achieve the results. Sounds like a wonderful competition, but I think that rule is rather limiting, if that is indeed the rule. I'll have to look at the rules to make sure, as I understood unpublished photos. The hobby should be accessible. Sorry for my little rant.

Wish my hairgrass would fill in and carpet already. I've rescaped it again and if I had the carpet I would enter it just for the comments on the judges likes and dislikes and find another comp later after changing it around from the comments.

Where in the name of blue blazes do they acquire those pieces of bogwood, so interesting and so natural. Our LFS get huge chunks that can only be described as wooden bricks, non with the outreaching branch like structure we see from these exhibits. As already mentioned the standard is much too high for the novice and with judges such as the highly acclaimed Oliver Knott in residence will mean that these candy box scapes will be judged using a very critical eye. I'm with Liz on this one...bare bones warts n all on show. Scapes to last the test of time not 3 day crowd pleaser's
Just my opinion I might add......

you need to look for redmoor wood, C. They have loads available online. Aquaessentials is good for it.

That stuff floats, correct, and needs to be held down in some fashion am I correct in my assumption.
C

yeah it'll float until saturated, or just superglue to a bit of slate.

That's what I thought, I have some already in the frog terrarium looks interesting. I just thought that the structure of the wood makes my old skool bog-wood effort look a tad listless, LOL

I agree. I'd much rather see these scapes as they would normally appear, warts and all. What makes me laugh is the hairdryer effect. My tank creates that effect by just running the filters, because I have HOBs and they create this effect. No breaking waves, but good ripples. But they tend to use external canister filters. There are some competitions in the Netherlands or in Europe where the judgiing panel will actually visit the competition finalists, which I like. Another approach is to submit video. I would like to see a competition where they required the journal entry for confirmation. I would prefer seeing scapes that saw to the long-term health and well-being of the plants and fauna being kept. Fish and plants are not disposable to satisfy the whim of a scaper, they are living things. I encourage TFF people to enter this competition, though, if they are able. If enough people present alternatives to the current fashion, fashions change. I like that when we do TOTM here, you can go and look at the thread. If Planted ever adopted a seperate scaping competition, which I'd like to see happen, one of the rules would be to submit the journal thread, to submit a "competition" shot, and to submit a "tank with hardware" shot. My rant is over.

I see a lot of potential with the new wood you purchased. :good:

Endor had mopani, talk about retro and tannins!!!! Sometimes I wondered if I had a tank full of water or a tank full of tea. Especially if I went 2-3 months between waterchanges.

I do hope you enter, Ian, just remember not to publish photos of the finished scape so you can enter. You have to bit the bullet and just not share... :hyper:

Liz
