Aquatic Frog At Petco

Today I went to Petco to pick up some ghost shrimp for my tanks and they had these absolutely HUGE tadpoles for sale. I over heard an employee talking to a customer about them, but she claims to not know anything about them because they get them in so rarely. The label just says "tadpole frog"... They had to be at least 5-6 inches long. I though I heard her say they are leopard frog tadpoles? Leopard frogs are very common where I live and I've never seen a tadpole that big before. She also said the frogs they turn into are fully aquatic, but leopard frogs aren't fully aquatic? Does anybody know what these are? I'm really interested in getting some and they are only 1.99! But I don't want to get one without knowing what it is exactly and how to take care of it. If anyone has any information on these tadpoles that would be amazing. Thanks for the help. I sadly did not get a picture of them, but they look sort of green with small black speckles, have their back legs, and are about 5-6 inches in length.

Generally speaking tadpoles a quite easy to raise, especially if they are from frogs that live in your area.
 
The hard part is keeping them when they become adults because they have a very strong tendency to want to return to the swamp or waterway they originally came from.
 
I used to collect frogs eggs every spring when I was in my early teens and raise them to be frogs in a bath tub in my back yard and every year, once they reached maturity, they would escape, presumably to return to the swamp they were taken from.
 
My suspicion is that an indoor aquarium is probably too "clean" for most frogs, depending on the species and some in your part of the world might be protected by law.
 
It's probably a good idea idea to properly research the variety of frog you're wanting to raise to ensure you are permitted to keep them and are able to provide a suitable habitat for them which they won't try to escape from once they become adults.

Possibly bullfrog tadpoles? years ago I remember buying these as a child in my lfs, they never did survive past the tadpole stage, maybe just aswell really considering the huge size and appetites of the adults! they no longer sell them here in the UK I can only imagine they are on the list of banned species now due to their invasive nature? Google bullfrog tadpoles and see if this looks like them?

I definitely plan on doing research! I just wanted to see if anyone knew what kind they are. Thanks for the info! I never thought they would probably want more river water.

Looked them up and it seems to be them! I can't get over how huge they are. The biggest frog we have are leopard frogs. XD I'll look them up and get some more info about them. Thanks so much.
