Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade the lighting that is built into the hood of the Aquastart 500?

At the moment there are 2 x 11w PL lights fitted into the hood, each one has its own lighting switch. Looking at these lights they are not the normal single strip light but are like a "U" shape so I am a little concerned that I may not be able to replace these with the alternatives available at the LFS's?

Any advice or links to suppliers would be appreciated.

P.S - I have a heavily planted tank and also have a CO2 Nutrafin setup running.

I also have this tank and likewise cannot find any other lamps to even fit it. As it is you have around 1.5 WPG. My plants seem to however be doing fine with my Nutrafin co2 unit and the standard lighting.

I have seen some of those U shaped lights in home improvement shops, not sure if those will work.

i think there aare two kinds of PL(U shaped )
there is a CF(compact flourecent) kind which fits in most incadecent sockets.
and there is another PL that has his own type of socket.
im gonna do hood remodeling
i found these in home depot
if you live in the us.
if not any hardware store

Was in my local B&Q (UK Hardware store) today and found these replacement lamps. They had them in either a 9W or 11W PL version.

11W was priced at around £5.50 but I could not find any that were more powerful than the 11W :/
