And here's the future star of the tank (already in it, but I haven't planted it yet because I haven't bought sufficient lights yet).

Little Cielo, this is about his actual size

One more pic of cielo

(BTW-- When I mean "large java fern" I mean the fern is going to be like a foot tall!)

Neat! I never thought of actually drawing out an aquascape plan. Looks like it'll be great! Show us pictures of its progress, please. And what a cute little fishy  I'm sure he'll be very happy in his planted wonderland :)

It's actually a pretty common practice. :D

Kind of hard to figure out what type of plants you'll need if you don't draw the ideas out . . .

I've since discovered that :*) I was looking at planted tank sites last night and saw many layouts drawn out.

As for the plants in my tank, if I find something at the lfs that I really like/want, then it's a candidate to go in my tank. I have two plants in my tank that I would not have chosen at the store, but I asked a friend to pick up a couple plants for me, so that's what I get for not picking 'em out myself! Maybe I'll put 'em in my mom's tank at school :shifty:

I'm afraid you're going to need a lot more than anubias and java's to make your tank look like those, or even half planted. Anubias and ferns are extremely slow growing and they stay low profile. I guess you have a lighting issue. I would recommend upgrading the lighting to get more variety.

I haven't bought any lights yet. But I do plan on pretty high intensity light, 3 15W 18 inch flourescent lamps for the 10 G. Bought the first already, pretty good buy. Aqua Glow, 18000K for 9 bucks.

The first tank has ONLY java moss . . . that's easy enough. I have riccia and glosso planted in other tanks, but Java is SO much easier to deal with . . . plus there's so much excess of the stuff from older plants. Might mix in some chain swords but . . . whatever.

The second tank's amazing because of the dense Micranthemum micranthemoides, or "Baby Tears," that I mentioned. If I still don't feel like the Micranthemum is tall enough (because it's really a mid-ground plant) I might plant some vallis or R. Indica around it. As for the massive Java Fern mentioned above, I'm ordering that already massive. :shifty:
