Aquarium Tips To Moving Houses

hi guys ill be moving houses in a few months

this is my first time with an aquarium

anyone got any aquarium tips or a quide or rules of moving successfuly with it.

just organise( start gathering poly boxes/water carriers- if you want to take ur water) and stay calm... it will go so much smoother is YOU stay calm

Well... I've just moved house with some 40 tanks and about 15 000 fish.... I lost 1 Guppy female in the process.....

About 30 minutes before loading the tank, I removed all ornaments & rocks.... syphoned the water out to around 5" depth, and then loaded the tank (including a 4ft - which took to 4 guys to carry it)

Though I did not move far, (some 80km)... I already knew where to put the tanks on the receiving side - 4 hours later.... and then just refilled the tanks as if in water change. All fish were fine as if nothing happened.

Did you leave the fish in the tank? filter media ?
I ask because I too am moving shortly and it's only a few blocks but I am debating on how to make it as stress free for the fish as possible.

as long as the filter media is left in tank water it will be fine for 24 hours minimum.

I just helped my boyfriend move about 15 miles to his new house, a 37 gallon tank. We took all the water out of the tank, but a few inches and put it in two 18 gallon tote containers. We lost some water in the moving process and from being jostled around in the container in his truck. The fish were fine with the move as well as the tank itself. We just drove slow on bumpy roads and tried to maintain a steady speed once on the highway. Just know where the tank is going at the new place and have some water there prepared for you to top off and/or do a small water change. It was more time consuming than it was hard.

I just removed the ornaments and submersable filters, but left the fish and sand in a few inches of water and moved... On the other side, I simply put the ornaments and filters back into their tanks and reconnected it all up - refilled with water and thats it.

quick question


with my 120-40-40cm tank how much water can i leave in it max and what type of fish can i leave in it or which cant i leave in it

and my kuhli loaches are going to be a pain to catch if i have to. im worried about them getting squished under the gravel and ornaments( when they move around in tank in the car) because they like to hide under them most of the time.

Well I don't know what fish you have but I think Kuhli loach should be fine even though they are weak fish, but thats only if you have gravel that is quite fine 1-2mm or almost like sand because i'm sure they can burrow anyways. Personally I would have taken all the water and fish out, and just leave the gravel in but I would say around 10cm high of water left should be fine.
I really don't want to put you off but my relatives had a bad experience on this, they were going on holiday and so they wanted to sell off their 4ft tank which they kept goldfish in. They were selling to someone who owned a restaurant and thats where it was being setup. My cousins were the ones who were bringing it in and so they took the tank into the restaurant and started filling it up with water but once the water got to quarter of the way they realized it was leaking at the back lol so they were there quickly unloading the water back into the buckets lol. They couldn't remember knocking it around anywhere whilst taking it there and they said they were careful with the tank. The goldfish were huge so they ended up giving it away for free.

So what I'm trying to say is be careful and be cooperative with the other person holding tank because with gravel and water in there its going to be heavy so obviously also fill it upto how much you can comfortably hold it. With fish being in there you don't want to end up having fish in the tank with no water lol.

I'm sorry I think I may have scared you once you read this lol, I don't want to see the tank on classified ads because of me lol. Really hope you do get your tank and fish in safely to your new home & Good Luck
