So I recently got fish, and I've heard about having Aquarium Test Kits and how they find the Ammonia, Nitirate, and Nitrate of the water.

Does this determine whether the water is safe or not?

If so, does everybody have to have this, just to be on the safe side?

And If I were to buy one, what brands would you recommend? -_-

yeah, a test kit is basically an essential, the link in my sig 'whats cycling' will explain some more.

look for a liquid based test kit, i recommend the API Fresh Water Master Test Kit.

Yes, the API kit is the most common and yes... I repeat yes.... maybe one more time, yes... you need a test kit to check quality of the water.

Hope I made my point clear

Ox :good:

Oh, and lest we forget the OP...

orandalove, count me as another member who agrees that a test kit for a beginner is a must.

In fact, I'm such a fanatic about it now that I'd pick it out before deciding on the tank itself, lol.

(all ya need is knowledge, water, test kit, household ammonia and conditioner and the usual hardware...)
