Anybody know if you can use a general purpose silicone sealant in an aquarium? I'm really thinking it's the same stuff as aquarium sealant and that it is safe but I don't want to use it unless I know for sure. Thanks!!!

I would not think so. Check the back, usualy if the stuff is safe for aquarium use it will say so. By the way, what colour is the silicone?

I have used general sealants without problem. Just make sure it says 100% silicone on it, and ot does not contain fungicides or other mildew resistant chemicals. When in doubt, you can call/write/email the manufacturer. The 'aquarium sealants' in the LFS are usually just more expensive replicas of the stuff in the hardware store.

That's what I was hoping for bignose. I didn't think of calling the manufacturer, duh! I have a tube of it already and I don't need that much and, like you said, it is more expensive to get the stuff in the lfs. It is 100% silicone so I'll give 'em a call. Thanks!
