How long should the light (Coral Life 50/50 compact Florescent 48’) stay of in a fish only (with live rock) aquarium? The area is very well lit in the day (no direct sun light).

I would say 8 hours min. for fish only. Now if you add coral then i would say 12 hours and you should get some metal halides.

How big is your tank? What else do you have in it?

I have my lights on for 10 hours a day on my reef. on a fish only ank you can have them on for anything between 6-10 hours a day as long as it is the same every day. if you have them on to long, then you will start to got algae growing. if there are no corals in there, then there is no real need for light, just to give the fish a\ day/night cycle and so you can see the thing.
