Hi all,

I am looking at redoing my tank and have ask for suggestions else where but i want to plant a hardy ground covering plant, like grass for fish tanks, if there is such a thing. lol i feel a little dumb askin.

Does any one know of a hardy plant that will grow across the floor of my tank over fine gravel?

Cheers in advance

Riccia has been popular for a few years:

It was popularized by Mr. Amano, writer of the Nature Aquarium boooks

Hemianthus Callitrichoids (HC) has become popular since it has recently become available to the hobby.

It can also be grown into a carpet emmersed quite easily (I really want to do this...):

Unless you're doing the carpet HC thing, growth of carpets can be difficult and/or time consuming to maintain. If you're looking for something slightly larger, you could go for something less challenging, you could get some Pygmy Chain Sword:

I use Eleocharis parrulus and Eleocharis acicularis

I can recommend Tropica`s Eleocharis `parvula`.

:) Guppy grass grows easily in gravel and low light tank. It's pretty hardy and it spreads. It's hard to find in stores though. I have seen it sold through ebay though. Good luck!

I've had plants sold to me as dwarf sagittaria which grew to be as much as 16" long if I let them grow across the water surface (I haven't found a closer visual match than dwarf sag). Still spreads like a weed though.

I'm looking into the dwarf hair grass (Eleocharis parvula) as its the look i'm after only problem is i can't find the stuff lol, i might use some dwarf Sag in there too coz that looks lush

Cheers all
