Whats that grass stuff that you can get to put in a aquarium? and where can you get it from? anyone know anyway online where you can buy it from? i have never seen it in my LFS before!!! :good:

You can buy plastic pygmy chain sword quite easily, that does the job well but it gets covered in algae and is a nightmare to clean.

Anyone know any websites in the uk where you can get dwarf hairgrass from?? thanks. :good:

There is a pinned topic somewhere that gives you loads of different sites for online plant sales in the UK!! I havent used them but they look fairly cheap but i havent found the postage costs yet!!

Here's some Plant specific websites around:

Java Plants
Greenline
Tropical Aquarium Plants
Plants Alive

These sell plants and other goods for the aquarium:
Birstall
Aqua Essentials

For hairgrass to spread well, it's best to add small clumps frequently throughout the tank. Be warned, this takes ages - i've just done a small area of my tank. Also, it doesnt go very far so make sure you ordered plenty. As a rough guide, i ordered 7 plants and it just filled an area roughly 40cm x 10cm.

It's also prone to algae and once it gets a hold of the grass it's hard to remove. I've added shrimp in the hope that they'll clean the algae off of it.

The hairgrass ( dwarf hairgrass is what you'll be after), does best under high lighting and CO2.

The real stuff is lovely but a hi tech planted would be the best place for it to carpet. Where as the fake stuff in my opinion looks rubbish.

I'd be a bit careful adding that to a tank with kuhli's, they might injure themselves on it

agreed, and if you're looking for that carpeted look you'd have to buy 50 of those plastic guys :D

i reccommend if you are going to go for the plastic ones buy one first to me thet look rubbish but you may think otherwise.
