Hi, been looking at getting some new wood for my tank as my current stuff is rather old now and its been munched down by plecs and whiptails to the point where the branches have seriously worn off.

I saw some of this XL bogwood today for a good price in a shop and they had 2 or 3 great pieces that I wanted to get but just wanted to hear if anyone had any experience with it and how hard it was to get to release its tannins? They are pretty big so its going to be in the bath lol, they are about 3 foot long, 2 foot tall 15 inches front to back.

I have had small pieces of peat bog wood, they released tannins almost immediately and do so for a long time, much longer than mopani wood or red moor.

While talking wood, (thread hijack sorry) have you ever heard of Mr Manzanita wood? Been having a look at their website today, some of their stuff looks really nice, but I have never heard of it before.

Yeah Ive had actual bog wood before I guess Im just paranoid on adding things to my tank :/

Manzanita wood is used quite a lot, its quite common in the US I have looked at this site before http://www.manzanita-driftwood.com/ if you need a lot of it they can work out quite effective I got in touch with them and you could get 4-5 bigish bits shipped to the UK for about £25 + the cost of the wood but some big bits are around $40 so £25-£30 which if they were in the UK would be at least £50

Its a 6 foot 135 gallon tank :) Im well over due some pictures so will sort something at some point. A big chunk of wood like that will really fill it out with some of my current wood that is not too old.

Yeah I saw that but I think the American site is a bit cheaper than that and they have better choice - I imagine that is where they actually import it from.

I took all the bogwood out off my 200 liter tank, and had already removed it from my other tank a while ago, powerhosed it all today and have it in a storage container soaking in water think i will sell it all as i wont be putting any of it back in to any of the tanks, just keep the redmoor in my tank and have the lido 200 done with just normal ornaments and plastic plants, coz its only guppies, swordtails, bleeding heart tetra's and black tetra's....Get you camera working and lets see this big  tank,i got my 8foot delivered on friday morning there removed the packaging and there was a small crack and chip in the bottom left corner i was fuming ready to blow my top waited that long for it,now have to wait ages for it to be delivered again :(
