Hello,

I have just purchased the above fish tank and wondered if any body has Info on it as its not appearing when googled.

Its 69L 15G UK It also has a 24w T5 light attached

Wanted if poss info on the filter as it has only one filter pad with carbon attached at the back.

Hopefully won't need the carbon as you all know the reasons for it. The other pad is just plastic looking looking with small spikes which is where the good bacteria are suppose to live. Not sure about this?

The LFS said to the gravel is where most of the bacteria live and this is all you have to worry about.

The tank was priced at 159.99 (If you belive the Inflated price)reduced to 79.99

I only want to use it to try and breed a few types of very small fish so it looked a good buy.

If poss I would like to use sand rather than gravel as that is what I have used in my Vision 260 for over two years and had no probs

Any help would be great

Hi Bob,

I too have a Vision 260 as my main tank, and I too have recently purchased an Aqua One Horizon 60 and set it up as a fry tank.

I was a bit sceptical about the filter media too, so i took it out (don't use it at all) and replaced it with a bit mature media (sponge from my Fluval 401) from my main tank. As you say, no real need for carbon at all. Instantly cycled fry tank. Woo Hoo! :hyper:

What type of filter do you use in your Vision 260? If it's an under-gravel, then your LFS is right about the gravel. If not, then he has given you bad advice (all too common i'm afraid) but you could maybe do what i did with existing mature filter media.

Sand is fine for it, i used black sand. It looks really good i think.

Hope this helps. I'll be interested to see how your tank turns out. Keep me posted. :good:

Edit: I also bought mine for £80 from Dobbies Garden Centre, although i think they claimed it was reduced from £100, not £160. These places will say anything to make you think you are getting a good deal, eh?

Hi backtotropical

Thanks for the reply how did you fit the media to the filter on the Aqua one from your picture (which looks very good)or are you using a different filter looks like an eheim or are you using both?

I use an external Tetratec Ex1200 filter on my 260 works good very quiet but a bit dissapointed as sometimes I think the water clarity could be better but with the size of fish in it it produces alot of waste(trying to find a good home for my 3 Tinfoil Barbs but being 6" each its not easy if you know of anyone please let me know. Bought these fish when i first started, Its amazing what you learn after you purchase things. I also removed my Internal filter for more room.

I'm going to set up a couple of pics for my Aqua one so Ill keep in touch to show you how Im getting on.

Thanks again

Bob

Hi Bob,

I took out the carbon plate and the biological filtration plate from the Aqua One filter, cut a bit sponge from my Fluval external which is on the big tank and simply put the sponge in where the original media was on the Aqua One.

I made sure i cut it the correct size because water flowing round the sponge would not work nearly as well, it has to flow through the sponge for best results. I'll post a pic of the setup later to let you see.

I would recommend you to do the same. I also use the eheim aquaball for extra filtration. (I always over-filter my tanks for peace of mind).

I cant comment on the effectiveness of the Tetratec as i've never used one. I use a Fluval 401 and an Eheim 2026 on my Vision 260 (again over-filtered) and both are great. The Fluval has been running no problems for 7 years now.

BTT

Yeah this tank is new for this year i believe, and is one i'm currently considering for myself,

if i do purchase one however this is the filter i will be purchasing to run it

magi-flo filter

They are exceptionally cheap and i find they do a really good job, I currently have the magi-700 (as well as a small canister filter) in my 300 litre tank, and i have found that is as good as any fluval or eheim internal filter that you can buy.

That is one cheap filter and i like the Idea of the various positions

Have you used this one before or only the larger ones and if so are they quiet?

I only have a magi 700 at present but that is pretty much silent,
