Hi Everyone,

So I have 1 Piranha in a 75 Gallon with 2 x 70 Aqua Clear.

I would say maybe it would be a good idea for me to figure out a way to control the current more.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could achieve that? the flow is on the lowest it can go.

The setup is one 70 on the farthest right and the other 70 on the farthest left.

Here is my 2 Ideas.
1. Moving the 2 filters together and setting up the fake plants more towards the other side.
2. somehow bonding plants to the take to sit right under the filters to still cause water agitation but not allow the pressure from the escaping water to penetrate as deeply. (piranhas love shade anyways.) as in floating on the surface

*NEW* Idea I could buy that really frilly fake plant.
Cut off the base.
Pin it between 2 filter inserts.
Drap it out of the filter into the water.

This will drag the current down alot I would imagine.

Goddamnit you're annoying with your 600 new threads every day. You posted it at 1:00 and are demanding answers only 1 hour later. Sorry that TFF doesn't cater to your needs 24/7. Why don't you wait 5 seconds, COMBINE ALL YOUR QUESTIONS IN 1 THREAD, and then post 1 thread and give it time. A well thought out question/thread is going to receive more answers than 600 poor ones. If your aqua clear has too much current, have you tried turning it down? There's a little switch thing on the intake you just move over to the side and it slows down the current significantly. However, I'd imagine the piranha would be able to take 2 AQ 70s current on a 75g. You could TRY the whole cut-off-the-leaf thing, but what I would do is just put them on opposite sides of the tank both on the lowest setting.

You'll never have a truly happy piranha in a 75g though, if you only have one of them.

what a horrible way to treat someone that is looking for advice, you could have worded that a heck of a lot more politley

I actually sent him an apology as well HA HA

Thanks for everyone who helped with this.

nothink 2 appologise m8 u asked for help in a FORUM so i cant see wot his problem is if he dont want 2 read it then dont read it same as replying dont repl,y if it bothers u that much.

jen

P.S Cant help with question tho lol :p

I wouldn't think that is too much current. I leave the one on my 75 gal. tank full blast (110 filter)

On my 30 gal. (30 filter) it tends to wash away one spot in the sand so I put a large tree stump ornament in front of where the water flows in.

The link that celaeno posted should be a good way to do it.

And you can have a happy single red belly in a 75g. They only shoal in the wild to avoid being eaten. They still are very untrustworthy of each other though. That is why in tanks a singly kept specimen is much less skittish and shy than ones kept in a group.

I've actually given him good advice, and explained to him what he could do better and why posting-wise, my post was probably more constructive to this thread than shelagh or jen, no offense.

Again, although piranhas generally don't like stronger currents, they do swim in them in extremely large schools (again, more incentive to get more, even though you stated in the PM you were trying, gj), 2 AQ hobs designed for 70g should be fine. Again, move the little knob-stick-thingy over a little bit and slow down the current on both, and place them on opposite ends of the tank (to avoid dead water spots) and the piranha should be fine.

What I did is bought some fake plants one with the fuzzy leave appearance and stuck them within the HOBs so the over-flow is now running through the leaves this has converted to current like running 4 x 30s instead of 2 x 70s.

I am hoping this isn't going to cause me problems couldn't see why but it has worked.

Fish more lively now.

just worried about oxygen now ... no signs of problems but I would imagine it would take awhile.

See the problem is even when the flow was reduced to its lowest it was still moving a very large amount of water.

Ive always thought that a decent flow in the tank made the ps more lively. Many people add powerheads to their tank and their ps seem to like it a lot more.

i have actually underfilled most of my tanks so that the filters cause decent flow( return is above water level) my fish love it ( oscars,guppies,platys-in several diffrent tanks)
i dont know anything about pirhanas tho,but i would assume that as long as the surface of the water is being aggitated ( not to the point where the flow is pinning him to the side of the tank) he will be fine with the flow and the oxygen exchange will be fine, as you have already said hes already acting better, hope this is working for you, if he goes off the idea, then maybe you will have to look for another type of filter?? and as you say he probably chuffed with the extra shade anyways, anyway let us know how he gets on with it, and how about some photos of the fella?? im scared of pirhanas, but i think they are very nice looking fish.
