Aps Filter Faulty And Leaks, They Wont Replace!

You state APS have already sent you a new powerhead, what else can they do? they did that without asking you to return the faulty one, and usually a fault with a filter is the powerhead. Its a shame you are so far away I would loan you a filter so you could send yours back to APS. The only thing to do is just sent it back, keep your media in your tank and so daily waterchanges until they send you another one. Most companies will just send a new head as Ian states, but a whole new filter is different, too many con artist out there I am afraid.

The thing is when livestock is involved it becomes a different kettle of fish (pardon the pun), because livestock will be put in danger if the op doesn't have sufficient filtration this alters laws a little.

this means nothing when it comes to laws, the original poster should have backup plans incase "plan a" fails,

it does not alter anything, he should have backup filters or tanks to take care of the situation....thats the way the law would look at it...the manufacturer is not responsible for what you do with your livestock in the time being,

At the end of the day the filter is clearly faulty and he needs a new one

once again wrong,

sorry but this is yet to be determined, nobody knows if the filter is defective until it is returned for inspection, including you and i, and the consumer, and the seller/manufacturer, nothing has been proven at this point in time, other than the poster submitting a video of the filter leaking water.....this could be caused by user error/installation error.....this does not conclude the filter is faulty, all it states is the filter is leaking water, which does not determine the reason why, and it does not conclude the filter is faulty,

the company/manufacturer still does not know why the filter is leaking and can not conclude a reason without seeing the original filter and inspecting it.....as i have said, this could still be a user/installation error....nothing is proven until the consumer returns the filter for inspection,

the company is doing all they can to rectify the situation and repair or replace the filter.....it is the consumer who is not co-operating with the manufacturers request to return the filter so they can inspect it,

once an inspection is done, they will take appropriate action....repair the filter (if a defect is found)....replace the filter if it is beyond repair.....or tell the user how to properly setup the filter if this is a user error.....bottom line is, none of these things can be determined, and nothing can be accomplished, until the filter is returned for inspection,

by not complying with their requests, the consumer is not even giving them a chance to make things right about the situation,

Yes agreed, the law doesn't change depending on your fish tank setup, sorry but that's just ridiculous.

they did request the old one back. ive already sent it back to them so they know im not trying anything funny, i will make a diy filter if i have to i suppose.

i see where your coming from but every other company sends out new filters without much hesitation. i guess i forgot to mention the most important part, i told them it may well be possible for me to send the filter back but i would have to keep the media that was supplied, they said we reccomend people to have spare filters for cases like this, i responded with how many people keep spare filter media alive and cycled incase of a filter malfunction. they replied by sendimg me some labels. its still unclear whether or not they will allow me to keep the media in all honesty!

i dont see any harm in keeping the media, but i guess thats the companies decision,

if they need to replace the filter and send you a new one they can just send it without the new media,

but they cant do anything for you until you return the filter.....the sooner you return it, the sooner this will be resolved, so no point in delaying it

Why don't you temporary install the original filter, cramming the filter media from the faulty filter into it, maybe run a DIY box filter too as suggested and return the faulty one. Manufcatureres won't send a replacement of any type of goods before they get the old one back. Otherwise everyone would figure out a story how to get a replacement. But I would make it clear to them and insist that they are not getting the old media back for obvious reasons and I don't see how they would even think of getting it back with the media inside. It's a matter of life and death for your fish so put it that way to them.
Make sure before you send it that you've tried installing it as per manufacturer's specifications. Loud noise can happen if you haven't put the impeller correctly too which happened to me once, or as someone suggested the UV bulb cover. I already menioned it, but the best way to prime this filter is to fill it up just over half way, 2/3rds the max, put all pipes and the lock mechanism, then push the prime button several times. Bubbles should be coming out of the filter outflow tube when you do that.
Besides the loud noise is it leaking too? The white water may not be filter related really, it could be something else going on inside the tank that is visible when the filter probably stirs up the tank quite a bit. If the filter media is cleaned, then there shouldn't be anything coming out of it unless the ceramic media is shuttered in pieces or not washed and sends white dusty particles. Also, the top basket on mine has only filter floss because it says on the instructions not to fill that one with other media. It's too close to the impeller and powerhead and maybe causing damage. When you said that they sent you a new head, that really means the hole impeller/powerhead and all bits and pieces that make this filter work, the bottom is just a bucket of water with baskets, so if I were the manufacturer I would be suspicious too of a user error, because in reality they sent you a new filter already, just without the bottom which is plastics only. You may have been unlucky enough getting 2 faulty ones in a row but that's really very rare.
