although you cant hear it in this video, my filter is very loud, takes forver to prime, clouds my aquarium like hell, and leaks when you tilt it, or when you shake the air out!

they wont send me a replacement as ive already had a replacement head, that didnt fix the problem. now all there offering me is, for me to pack the whole lot up and send it back to them, ive already explained this isnt an option. but they sent me the return labels anyway, they also threatened that if they find no fault i would have to pay for pnp! i dont know what to do anymore. check the video out. my aquarium is cloudy and the filter leaks like crazy!!!

That looks really bad!

How old is it?

about a month old!! had the problem right from the offset, ive tried everything, its a good filter if you leave it alone and can deal with the noise, it clears the tank ok. but when i clean it out this happens and is a nightmare to get going again!

Have a read of this

http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/england/consumer_e/consumer_common_problems_with_products_e/faulty_goods_e/faulty_goods.htm

They need to send you a new one, and if they don't then threaten them with trading standards. If this doesn't work then contact your local trading standards, they are normally really good and will follow things through.

They should be sending you a whole brand new filter, not just a head.

This is why I now avoid APS filters, Bad reviews and bad customer services but I guess others have been lucky. But as above by law they should replace. But there's no law stopping them testing it an seeing. I suggest you buy a different brand of filter :p

Sorry to hear mate, Its really hard then. It might be possible to get a refund? Maybe look at a tetra filter.

It's worth giving trading standards or the citizens advice bureau a ring on Monday to see where you stand. I'm not sure legally where you stand if the thing you need to send back is keeping livestock healthy, but I can bet my life they have to replace the whole unit and not leave you with anything, also ethically this isn't right.

I have the APS 1400 and yes it makes a bit of a hum but I wouldn't describe it as noisy.
Why it should it make your tank cloudy lord alone knows, mine certainly didn't - unless of course the filter isn't cycled and then you would be looking at a bacterial bloom.
So to eliminate one possibility, is your filter cycled?

On the subject of the water leak, is there any grease on the rubber seal of the head? If there isn't, then yes the filter will leak as you have both described and more than adequately demonstrated. Others on this forum have had this problem and have used some form of third party grease product to effect the seal - hopefully they will see your thread and advise what that product is as I for the life of me cannot remember what it was.

If there is grease there to effect the seal, then it would appear that the filter canister itself maybe distorted or oversize and will never make a good seal.

APS should really be taking this all on board and supply you with a new working filter which you can install and then return the old one to them - at their expense of course.

As a matter of interest - and please tell me to mind my own business if you wish, no offence will be taken - how did you pay for the filter?
If it was by means of a credit card, you may have some comeback there along with using the advice from CAB and Trading Standards.

Regards

David

thankyou for the interest. previous topics about this filter, discussions were made about the cause of the cloudyness. limescale due to hard water infact. yes its fully cycled, yes ive vaselined it. once i recieved the new head it didnt make it any quieter. other members on here have said mine is too loud compared to theirs. i told them about the link and shew them. i said send me a new bottom half and see if that helps. they say in their experience a bottom half doesnt solve anything! well ive had 2 heads and its still leaking like a tap and very loud! ive had the tank up and running months and had previous externals! im shocked how poor the customer services has been if im honest. i payed via paypal on ebay. the official ebay supplier of aps filters. thanks for your concern

I don't know anything about this filter but because it is an electrical goods, you are covered even more strongly than the distance selling regulations. It must have a years warranty if you bought it new.
And if this company is worth it''s salt the will acknowledge the seriousness of your problems. Why not send them your video and let us know their response?

yes im covered by the warranty thats why they sent me the new head. ive sent them numerous photos and videos to get the first head in the first place, ive sent them that video and am waiting to hear back from them. im begging to think im getting ignored. i didnt appreciate them responding to my please help me i cant send you the filter back until i get a replacement message with.... weve sent you some labels to send the filter back! sigh

If you've got the money, maybe you need to buy a spare filter while you send the whole ruddy thing back. Motor brushes in filters only last 5 years or so anyway.

However I will say that if this is their official eBay outlet and not some bod they've agreed to supply, they should be concerned about the reputational issues of their filter!

Just read your recent posts since my reply.
Try having a word with Paypal/Ebay - they are one of the same - with regards to getting your money back.
I'm not sure how the system works but i think you have to go through Paypal first and raise an issue? - others who know better than i should be able to advise on this.

I bought my filter DIRECT from APS and NOT through Ebay. It could well be that APS are trying to get rid of second rate stock without declaring it.
Go back to your Ebay purchase history, select the item and read CAREFULLY how the item is described i.e NEW as in BRAND NEW or New as in reburbished.
Once you have re read the full description, post it on here and let the rest of us see what we can up with.

I have a sneaking suspicion - although it may take some time - you might have a case through Paypal to get a charge back, which in turn would give you the money to buy another decent filter.

Food for thought???

David
