Hi,

There is a lot (and I mean a lot, they at 'it' every day for hours :D lucky sods) of nookie going on in the tank but no sign of even a single egg. Someone who purchased A-snails at the same time is well into breeding them (started 2-3 weeks ago).

Can I expect the patter of tiny snail shells soon or are they practicing 'safe sex'?

Have you checked their water condition requirements, if there are any? Just from what I hear they should be well on the way to breeding within 3weeks, saying that though when I got my trumpet Snails never noticed anything for about 2wks then one day there was loads and I mean loads of babies.

What colour ones you got? I just ordered some over ebay all multicoloured.

Golden Apple Snails. Yes it could be water condition, food or water level but from what I have read all these should be acceptable in my tank (with the exception of food, as yet I haven'e given them lettuce etc although they do get cucumber).

Perhaps water level is too high as they have less than 6 inches of air space so will drain some water off to give them a bit more.

PS

Do you really look that scary or is it a special look you put on for the camera :hyper: (only joking  )

You don't need that much space above the water level. Mine lay eggs in the hood of the tank. It just needs to be a space above the water line out of water, long enough for them to lay their eggs.anything above 3-4 inches would be fine.
Maybe the snails aren't mating yet? Or maybe they are not fully mature yet? Or maybe they're just gay ;)

They'e certainly not gay as one IS male & one IS female (have 3) and they are at it 'hammer & tongs'.

I'm not sure how old they are but they are over 1 inch across and snails from the same batch & size are breeding for someone else. They now have 3 inches of space above the surface so will see how that goes.

I have a fair few Golden Apple Snails in my tank and did think earlier the water level might be too high for them as its just under 2ft high, Have you got any other Snails like Ramshorns? their normally pretty good for breeding and seem more active.

I work in a Prison and it helps to look this way sometimes

Mine also laid eggs in the lighting canopy watch they dont dry out.i moved the eggs into just a jug and a bit of water and had loads of baby snails...good luck
also if you move them dont let them drop off into the water....they will drown in the eggs

No ramshorns just apples.

Know what you mean about how it will help, I've seen Ronnie Barker in porridge

Hi,

My Apple snails were doing the same. Nothing seemed to be happening and then BANG, two clusters within a few days of each other.

As you can see I havent that got that big a gap, but the atmosphere is very moist and should be kept that way.

Rich

The gap was less than that in my tank, now it's about the same so we'll see what happens.
