So i woke up Saturday morning to find a clutch of apple snail eggs and i was so excited , i had 3 female and 1 male in the tank so i put in another 4 snails 3 more females 1 more male , Temp is set to 28 degrees and they have been constantly at it since they went in the tank .

Guess what i woke up this morning to find 2 more clutches in the tank and 6 of the snails again locked together breeding :hyper: i've just checked on them again now and i have 2 females sitting on the filter just on the water line (which is what they seem to do for a day or 2 before they lay ) so i think i should get a couple more clutches very soon (next couple of days)
So hopefully if all goes well i should be a mummy to lots and lots of baby apple snails of various colours , first batches should either ivory , red stripe , hazel or a mix of the three , will be rotating the females and putting in one blue male with a pink stripe female and a golden female

Thanks for reading and wish me luck with my snail breeding -- got red lights on in the tank and barry white playing into the water :hyper: just to set the mood lmao

I trasferred 2 snails to the 180ltr noticed this morning they were females so checked the top of the tank and there is a clutch laid in there last night , it's only a tiny one so not sure how that one will go but all the others are still doing fine

when they are old enough to breed the centre bit of the curly shell goes very dark in the female as thats where the ovaries are and the males stay the same colour all over
i found it quite easy to do following the things below might get it wrong a couple of times but i have ended up with more females than males so am pretty lucky

When snails with a tranlucent shell (albino Pomacea bridgesii in this case) are ready to reproduce, the ovaria of the female (left) can become suspicious through the shell.

Sex differences in adult Pomacea flagellata flagellata snails.
The female is larger and has a straight shell opening, while the male (left) has a extended shell lip.

got the info from here http://www.applesnail.net/content/anatomy/reproduction.php

Oooh very cool, your gonna be overrun soon. Mine have just started breeding! So far I know my blue is male and my caramel is female. One of the LSP's is male too.

Thanks for explaining that Sarah, very helpful, I shall hopefully be able to have babies in the near future, the little ones are too small to tell yet, I think the two large ones are both male.

There's an easier method on the TFF species profile for apples to sex them that has you looking inside the shell.

And pippoodle, don't you want some water with your snails?
