Apple Snail

My apple snail seems to be having some strange behavior, almost as if he is sick or dieing, as I am interpreting this. He is floating at the top of the water kind of hanging out. No apparent signs of damage or fungus. So I was concerened and placed him in my 6 gallon quarintine tank that also have fish in it.

Does anybody know whats goin' on?

Also can fish and snails (particulary apple snails) transfer diseases?

I know this sounds a little weird but pick him up and try to open him up like he would be if he was moving around. If he pulls back hes fine. If you can open it without him pulling back hes dead or almost dead.
