Apistrogramma Cacatuoides "triple Red"

Sorry about you losing the female Apisto :(

I've had bad luck with keeping Apistos, I think I've probably lost 4 in the last 6-7 months, the female I have left now seems to be doing ok though since I've started using RO and tap water mix.
The guy who deals with the dwarf cichlids at MA told me they don't survive long in hard water areas, same with the German Blue Rams too. The female has been in my tank for a couple of months now and she's lasted longer than any of the others, maybe a coincidence? But my Blue Rams are doing well too for a change.

I guess it can just be the luck of the draw sometimes but I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for my female to carry on doing ok.

Sorry to hear about your female :(
I picked up a pair for £11 today, about 2" long, female was straight in, looking about etc... male was a bit sulky, both look good now though

I am starting to think female apisto cacautoides are hard to keep. My male has thrived but my 2 females, one died when she was tiny, the other, died, she had grown a good size but was always hiding and then one morning, found her topside up, so to speak.

But other than that, my male is doing very well, my pH is usually at a steady 8 but has been known to go to 8.5 and never had an issue with him.
