hello guys, i've been busy for a while-
just want to know if there's anyone outthere
who have apistogramma agassizi---
it's very similar to GBR--

i'm after for a ram but can't find any in my area--
i want the Blue in particular-- all they have are gold- :D
so to make the story short i go for the Agassizi instead
do you think it's okay with Gouramis and neon?

they seems to get along in my obsevation-- although sometimes
they look quite shy (the agassizi) is it normal?

thanks!!!

here's a photo of one of them-- i managed to sneak behind him-- :D

Should be fine, you might want to get him a pal though! I assume the cycle is coming along nicely?

You're in London and can't find a GBR??

Whereabouts in London mate, I'll do some digging and see if I can find a stockist - MA usually have them, and most other places - although they often get labelled up as just 'Ram' or 'Dutch Ram'

if you can dig some-- it will be great--
i'm cycling a new tank and GBR are still
in my list---

:D

What did you say the name of the fish was in that pic Efren

I have a pair of German Blue Rams (those are mine in my avatar pic) they live in peace and harmony im my community tank which has black phantom tetras and a gourami so it shouldnt be a problem (I have shrimps too! ) . The only time there are any fights is when they have laid eggs in what Mr Banana my male dwarf flame gourami deems as his end of the tank! then its fisticuffs all the time until the eggs disappear!

hmm sorry man but that doesnt look like an agassizii to me, I cant find any pics to give it another id for you. If you could get a better pic when its coloured up a bit more that would help

google image search apistogramma agassizii blue to see what others look like

I take it driving isn't an option Efren? You're about 30 mins drive from me, and I know at least two LFS that will do the job. They're definately worth going that distance for.

I know exactly what those are, and they aren't agassizi...they're a hybrid called Apistogramma sp. "Steel blue". Usually passed off as A. Borelli.

*Edit* Although it's hard for me to tell from the pictures, check the tail and if it has sort of a checkerboard like pattern it's definitely a "steelblue". I've accidentally purchased one before, and as far as I could gather from research it's a hybrid produced in Asia. Females are extremely had to come by, and if you're a purist you wouldn't want to breed them anyway.

;)

i have to check it out again with my LFS--
cause i specified a South American Fish--
and if your research is right about this
then i might take it back to them and wait
for the Blue Ram instead--

:/

The Aquatic Design Centre on Great Portland Street nearly always has Rams in stock.

is this near Camden?
if you can give me the post code then theaa.com
will sort out the map---

thanks

Well when I said they were from Asia, the theory is that they were created in fish farms in Asia (i.e. many fish commonly available are bred in Asia, it doesn't mean they originated there)...what you have would be a SA fish, just a hybrid of two different ones. As for your LFS, just an FYI many of them only go by what the transshipper tells them they have. All three pet shops (including an independently owned) near me carried Corydorus aeneus marked as Brochis splendens because the transshiper said they were Brochis splendens. Of course, the transshipper might have been mis-informed as well.
