can you see the tails hanging down with the naked eye? i've been told and read that it looks like hair hanging down? i got eggs coming from my female yesterday when she was in with my male and i didnt know if he was eating them or putting them in the nest (putting them in the nest i think) and its been about 24hrs since i took her out when he chased her off and started nipping at her after cornering her in the tank. is there anyway of being sure theres babies in there with the naked eye or is it just a wait and hope he doesn't eat them now kind of thing until it looks like it's raining inside the tank from the nest?
thanks

If you haven't already, go ahead and take the female out. She's been in there long enough and if he's cornering her and since it's been so long they have probably already spawned. It usually takes between 24-48 hours to start seeing the eggs dance around. Do you have styrofoam at the surface? If so it's difficult to see the eggs stuck underneath until they hatch (although I almost always use this method and it works great). Even still, it's difficult to see the eggs but they will look like sort of a foam at the top of the water surface in the bubble nest. Sometimes you just have to stare at it for awhile to notice anything. After another day or 2..or 3 if you don't notice any eggs dancing around you may want to consider prepping them both for weeks and trying again later on. Also, watch to see if the male seems to be protecting the bubble nest, of so then he's very likely protecting those eggs! Good luck and let us know what happens!

i am pretty sure there are eggs up there, he has watched it like a hawk since i took her out, i was cleaning her tank and put her in the big one since they had been getting along when i had them together and by the time her tank was done i saw her dropping 10-15-even 20 eggs out, after they were done i took her out when he chased her off. i had just heard that it looks like a hairy nest when there tails hang down, its been a little over 24 hrs now since they did the dead and all i can see in there is dark spots or what looks like dark spots in the bubbles, i don't see anything that looks like hair (there tails) hanging down. i am using a cup, but its not a styrofoam cup, its a clear cup cut in half (but it makes everything blury when looking from the top).
thanks, and if there are babies and i will be sure and let ya'll know.

i think its 24-48 hours for the eggys to hatch :)
i was told if you look up at the bottom of the nest you can see little blck dots... when theyre hatched.... keep an eye out

it takes upto 48 hours depending on the tanks temp, the warmer the quicker they hatch ive had hatching within 18 hours, if he's watching like a hawk then thats good news, and when they hatch you will be able to see them hanging slightly, i put a torch to the nest at the level of the bubbles and this usually allows me to see the eggs before they hatch as you will see the odd one stuck to the bottom of the bubbles. but if he acts like hes constently arranging then there will be eggs there

the temp of the tank is staying at 82 degrees. thanks for all the info, i appreciate it. i was confident when i researched it and started it, now its like, is that wat i think it is, and whats that, and whats he doing sucking the bubbles down and putting bubbles in other spots (rearranging is wat i think it is)...its just excitement and waiting to know for sure. between laying upside down hanging off my bed watching the nest n all the blood flowing to my head and lack of sleep i think i'll go crazy by the time i know if theres really babies or not  u guys are keepin me somewhat sane with good info all over the place on the boards here :good:

well i now know for sure, theres baby fish falling all over daddy's head and he keeps turning in circles trying to catch them all!

Awww congratulations! He will be going crazy for the next few days. It seems like whenever they spit 5 little ones back in the nest, they knock 10 more down!

cover the top of the tank with a condensation tray and also with a sheet of plastic as you have to keep
the air above the tank at a steady temp while there labyrinths develop if you don't do this you may loose
them all i only breed Betta's in 4inchs of water with a poly floating tile or loads of ricca but thats just my way
any way good luck
