anyone want to share the experience of receiving fish in the post..

as i never bought a fish via post.

ultimately any videos?

I both recieved fish in the post and delivered on multiple occations

Imagine the scenes.....

*Man fills bag with water and adds fish that need to be posted.
Man then adds some oxygen to the bag and ties the top tightly, then puts 1st bag inside another one incase of any leaks.
Man puts bag into polystyrene box and surrounds the said bag with shredded or screwed up newspaper, then he places a heatpack inside the box to ensure the fish stay nice and toasty while on their journey.
Man then puts polystyrene box into a cardboard box, tapes it up, tapes an address label to the box and takes the box to his local post office, pays some money and asks that the fish get to their new owner the next day (It`s meant to be before 1pm the following day normally). Man may even choose to use a different courier who specialises in live animal transportation*.

It`s really that simple and I`ve had fish delivered numerous times now and there`s only been one occasion where some of the cardinals I bought were dead on arrival. Think it was because the heatpack was only slightly warm when the fish arrived and it had been a bitterly cold night previously.

Anyway, it`s the luck of the draw sometimes, if you plan to buy from a Seller on ebay, check their feedback because any problems will usually show themselves by the negative or neutral feedback and ask for recommendations on here first too

just want to know, how is the fish handles the post.. and specially when you open the box.. and for the first few hours.

Normally from online you pay like £20 postage, so i'm guessing the fish turn up in a Rolls Royce or something

In all seriousness im guessing the £20 keeps them alive for the journey, well it must!

don't forget that your LFS has to get fish as well, and they are probs posted (even if on a larger scale)

Even though i have never received fish by post, i cant see any issues with it

Yeah this covers either postage or delivery fees, plus a heatpack, 2 bags, rubber bands, usually a bag buddy pill and a little de-stress solution.
Even though £20 seems steep, the sender isn't getting much if any cash out of it.

I have posted and received fish by post thousands of times over the years. There were only two cases of DOA:

1. First week of 2005 or 2006: I posted young fish (fry) with Royal Mail. The recipient waited by the door for the whole morning, started getting worried when the Special Delivery package was not delivered alongside the normal post. At around 1pm left someone at home and went to the depot. On arrival, she could see the box sitting in the middle of the depot (outside and on the ground). They claimed to have tried to deliver the fish (but obviously did not) and refused to give out the fish without the little note one gets when one misses a delivery (which they did not leave) even though the recipient brought her passport and proof of address with her. In the end, by the time she convinced them to give the fish to her, the heatpack had been used up and the fish chilled too much.
2. Idiot seller did not pack the fish properly: some of the bags were leaking and a few were scuffed, so had holes in them. A few of the fish actually survived without any water, but in one of the four boxes the heatpack got soaked so was not working. This was in December (in Germany, so was bloody cold).

I have never had any other problems and fish are always sent/received as elisew described.

the only reason i dont order fish to be delivered any more is that you dont get the chance to inspect/choose your fish for yourself and are trusting that to somebody else.

Things have moved on a little since then with the advent of Kordon Breathable bags.
I am now using these with great results as they cut down on weight and water content
