Spotted them on ebay, says they are freshwater and the eggs need brackish to hatch so guess they come under this section. Anyone know much about them?

I don't know much about them. But I saw them for the first time a couple of weeks back in my local MA. I've got to say they are AMAZING to look at in the flesh. The picture on ebay is good, but even that doesn't do them justice, they're like little jewels!

I saw this ad and was taken by them too...interesting little things.

Yeah I thought they looked awesome, was wondering as it says PH 6.0 - 7.5 so could they be kept in a Discus set up. :)

I vaguely remember reading something about them a few months ago steve, they need to have specific tank mates I think.
i.e.... copied from http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?genus=Stiphodon&species=atropurpureus&id=1374

'Larger fishes are best omitted entirely although in big tanks it's possible to add a few non-predatory, surface-dwelling ones.'

Hope this helps

Thanks for that info, to be honest I think they'd be ok with Discus as they never really feed from the bottom or spend any time there and Discus aren't predatory fish. Hmmm I wonder :)
