I know its not much money but its all i can afford at the moment, i would consider second hand in good condition. Can anyone recommend me a camera for close ups? My 6MP is very out of focus

Any of the entry level cameras from Sony, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, or Samsung I know to be decent. My younger brother just bought a Samsung s630 for $119. That converts out to about 58 pounds I think. The Samsung has 6 mega pixels, internal image stabilization, a massive 2.5 inch LCD screen, and a good macro (close up) mode. I think it would probably suit you well.

Edit: a quick look on my local camera shop's website has the Samsung S630 listed at $99.99 (~49 pounds).

Check it out!

Does your current camera have a macro setting? If so, is it set to macro?

Assuming "yes" to both the above............... Are you getting in close enough? For macro, you have to be quite close & there is not much tolerance on distance.

Or maybe you need a tripod or soft bag to rest camera on - indoor shots usually mean low light/slow shutter speed.

You didn't say what camera you're using.

Or, forget about using macro setting. Take your shots & enlarge them with photoshop (or whatever you have). With 6mp, you won't lose image quality unless you do massive enlargements.

My current camera only has digital zoom and is the Photosmart E427. Ive tried it with macro mode and without, but it makes no difference.

Ive just bought me the Samsung S1030 for £129 its a 10.1MP and has 3x optical zoom, 5x digital zoom and 4cm Macro & Auto macro (what ever that means) I went over budget but the guy gave me a demonstration in the shop and its superb quality. Really pleased with it.

Congrats! Since their collaboration with Pentax, Samsung's cameras have made Huge strides in quality. They're every bit as nice as Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony or Pentax now.
