It's only forever; not long at all...
I went to Aqualife today and saw a tank with, mebbe, three or four of these guys in. Not knowing what they were and not overly trusting their adult size listed at 6" or the 'mildly aggressive' tag, I thought I'd better check them out and go back tomorrow if I like them. Well, all I've gleaned is
1. They are from Madagascar
2. They are probably quite rare (in the wild, and probably captivity too)
3. They may be a colour morph of ptychochromis oligoacanthus, but it seems like they are so different they may be a seperate species.
Best info thus far is
Well, they're very good looking, and at £10 each, a bargain. I'm pretty sure I'll go back and get at least one, does anyone else have any other info?

Ptychochromis nossibeensis, Bleeker 1868, local name: Tsipoy, size: 18 cm (7 inches) status: very threatened, from: crater lakes on the island of Nosy Be, in different color morphs. See photos of Lac Bempazava and Lac Ampombilava varieties.
Notes: it is uncertain if the genus Ptychochromis has only one species (P.oligoacanthus) or up to four different ones. The fish caught in the crater lakes on Nosy Be are threatened because of the destruction of their habitats. Efforts are under way to protect some of the crater lakes. Small numbers of Nosy Be Tsipoy are produced in captivity
