What about just pre-acclimatising them to tap water and properly acclimatising after you move? In other words, do keep as much water as possible, but start on larger and more regular water changes now to shift your parameters closer to tap water and add any new water after the move slowly, over a day or two. Or what about preparing the new water to match current parameters at the other end? For example, by having some RO or rainwater ready to go into the tank, if tap water is too hard (which might work better with the buckets if you're collecting the rain water at the new place).

the ex is looking after them till i can get them so i really cant do much before i collect it i have asked her to do a water change as its been 10 days since i left she will probably only do 10% if im lucky. i am not even sure she will let me go in and get it yet, she has gone a bit weird. i may suggest i drop round 3 tough crates with lids and some water containers, then she can fill the water containers, put the fish in one crate, the wood and plants in another and then all the stuff in the cupboards under the tank in the other. then i will just come in and pick it up without seeing her. well it could work in theory lol
Could she not go out while you nip in and check everything over. Half hour for a water change and some quick tests?
How about using large trash bags? I have moved large fish in them before. Just make sure they're not the scented bags!

But,just for the laugh, could we fill bin bags with water and see how far your motor goes before all have popped?
