Has anyone else got any Jade Eyed Cichlids? Prefferably adult (ish) size? Just wondered if you could post some pictures and comment on their behaviour. I have a male and a female that i am currently selling, but i am in two minds whether to actually keep them now as i really like them and have had them since they were about 1/2"

Thanks very much! :)

Well as you know i have a couple (what dont i have:p) only at the 3" mark currently. I'm unsure on sex, but i know one has gone almost black and the other is a light green with dark stripes. the darker one is almost always chasing the lighter one around. They get on fine with my Ellioti and Sev, and love to swim through and explore the plants :)

No doubt this is nothing you didn't already know, but thought i'd add my 2 pence.

Now... i need to read up on sexing cichlids.... lol

The females have a faint eye spot on their dorsal fin. The males lack this. My female is loads smaller than my male. HTH

Anyone else got any adults? Are they safe with plants? Not fussed about them digging, just don't want them to eat the plants if i added some.

mine were fine with anubiaus (sp) my female was half the size of the male. minxy on here ended up with them, not sure if she still has them. i liked them as they liked there caves and went around the rocks.

Thanks Bullit, i had to look twice when i saw your name on the thread!

Don't suppose you have any pics? Definately keeping mine now, they're beauties!

all in all very cool fish . had a nightmare trying to id them when i got them . ive never had a cichlid change colour so much . quite even tempered , never really caused any trouble . i really enjoyed them

Thanks Mark, this is exactly what i have been after! I have noticed that they sort of get a double chin  Funny shape for a cichlid too. Your Juvi looks exactly like mine did so i hope my adults do too! Loving the breeding colouration. What happened to yours?

I have a male and a female, but don't think they're a pair, just hoping they become 'friendly' :)

Thanks once again!

no prob :good: i sold mine to make space for a green sev and ended up wishing id kept them . i may be wrong but i believe they are central american . i love the way the eyes have turned jet black in thje egg guarding colours. the pic doesnt really show it but the black had a slight purleish tint along the flanks in the right light .

My male is about 3" at the moment, and the female around 2" My female still has her juvi colors, the male is darkening and has started to get the burgundy finnage.

How big did yours get? Assuming they were fully grown before you got rid? These will be my centre piece fish in my roma 125. I also have a pair of HRP's but had to move them when they were in my main tank as they didn't get on to say the least. lol.

mine were about 3 inches when i got them and about 4 1/2 to 5 when i sold them. the burgandy colours in the fins looks lovely when it develops. they will make a lovely centrepiece
