looking for a bit of general info on these, what would you recommend the Ph to be?
is it better to keep them in brackish water if so what should be the salinity level ?
what decor would you recommend and what plants can be kept in brackish water ?

i've read a lot about their diets i think thats one of the factors that would make it a fish that needs more care and time dedicated to it, so i've brought a little 3 liter tank so i can breed my own snails to feed it, i will get the other foods sorted when it comes closer to the time :)

Hello,

I have kept F8's in the past and can say 100% that they should be kept in low end Brackish water, the salinity level should be around 1.005 if you are not looking to keep plants in the tank. If you want to keep plants that are suitable for Brackish water the salinity level should be around 1.002-1.003. Vallis, Java Fern, Anbuis is what I kept alive at this level of salinity.

In regards to the diet, mine leved bloodworm but I made sure that they had plenty of pest snails to feed on to keep their beaks from growing to long, bear in mind that MTS (trumpet snails) are no good as they are to tough for F8's to chew on.

Also my puffers loved strong flow and spent most of their time riding the flow from a power head that I put in the tank. Also they need a lot of things in the tank to keep them interested otherwise you will find them pacing the glass with boredom. F8's are messy eaters so you will need a strong filter along with regular water changes to make sure the water quality is good.

Just please make sure you keep them in Brackish water and not fresh water.

thanks livewire :) if i get one any time soon id make sure my water is brackish, i already have a fair amount of fish in my tank as well as alot of plants that i dont want to get rid of, and id have to find somebody who wants my fish too, im stuck on which i like more the F8 or the tiny little freshwater dwarf puffers :)
