I think I've changed my mind a little about my stocking list. The following is what I know is going in my 20 gallon...

1 dwarf gourami
6 male guppies
6 panda cory cats
6 rasabora helgi (I can't find any info about these online, but they are tiny- less than an 1 inch. Lovely fish)

I need one more schooling type fish. I was going with rummy nose tetras, but they seem more delicate than others. I may go with harlequin rasaboras, but the helgi do have the same black triangle, so it feels like more of the same.

So any suggestions for a schooling community fish that would mix well and maybe have markings that aren't all silver or black?

Replying to myself- I will, in any case, bump up to eight, as I'm now reading they need at least that many and two more wouldn't really affect the bioload much considering their size.

Ember tetras??

I've been researching these, and I do like them quite a bit. They would be a nice contrast, I think.

Considering the size of the rasaboras, and the fact that the embers are one of the smaller tetras, could I do 10-12 of the rasaboras and six of the embers? Or is that really pushing it? I'm learning that stocking isn't as cut and dry as I thought, but I don't want to be "greedy" and create an unhealthy environment.

If I can't do that, I think I'll just get a nice big group of the rasaboras. They drew my eye instantly in the aquarium store- first fish I've seen that had a very big wow factor for me.

That combination should work fine in a 20 gallon. Are you considering anything else like cories for the bottom?
