i just got a 2.7gal betta tank and my bettas water feels a little on the chilly side, would it be possible to use a heater in a plastic tank, if anyone does it what kind is best to use? i dont want to end up melting his tank

Hydor makes a 7.5 watt heater for bowls and small tanks up to 2g - that may do you nicely - submersible and really compact. Big Al's sells them...

you think it would work even for a plastic tank? i could just picture comming home one day and my tank is all morphed out and my fish is gone...

If you have the room my suggestion would be to get a 25w thermostat controlled heater. Yes they do work in tiny tanks, I've sued one in a one gallon plastic tank before with no probs.

They shouldn't get hot enough to melt the plastic. You would have a dead betta before the tank warped :( (unless its made of a plastic sandwhich bag or something!)

I guess just be aware that it shouldn't be in contact with the plastic, just in case ;)

ihave a small 7.5 watt in a 5 gallon and it does fine...acrilyc i think it is..but the heater is small and flat and fits in just fine....i think its made by tetra or something of that effect
