Hi guys

So Libby has been good this year and getting an early Christmas present from Santa - a Fluval Roma 125 with external filter. Woohoo can't wait!

So... who has some ideas to stock it? I currently have a 39L with 2 sick neon tetras. They're starting to improve health wise so I'm hoping once they're fully healed they will have a new larger home (once the 125L is cycled). I will then be able to use the 30L as a quarrantine tank in future.

What I definitely don't want are guppies, platys or betta. Other than that I'm open to many solutions! If you could provide a list of stock that would help me get my head round it as I'm still a bit of a rookie at tropical.

Thanks in advance! :rolleyes:

How about;

10 neons
male and 2 female apistogrammas
BN plec

My brain isn't working today, will have to come back later and suggest more :p

* 15 neons
* 6-10 Corys or 1m 1f bristlenoses
* 1m 2f Apisto. cacatuoides or agassizii

I would have that as the base stock, maybe adjusting it after 6-10 months.. a normal set-up like that should be able to take a few more fish.

..what are the chances of two people suggesting the same stocking at the same time? :p

Thanks for the suggestions so far - spookily you were both thinking the same :huh:

I quite like gouramis - any suggestions for a community tank with them?

How about that? NB, if you want to keep Corys, you should have sand.

Sounds good KittyKat! I'm going to go for sand regardless this time, but thanks for the heads up!

Good stocking list but if you went with apistos, I would get less corys, stick with 5, not 10. I only say that as they can irritate apistos at times, I would think 10 might be too over bearing for them?

I would personally say 6 is a minimum.. 6-10 depending on size, of course.. so for example 6 bronze but 10 dwarf. I don't think small Corys are too bad if there are a few more.

I have a question about neon tetras - could I mix them up with glowlight and rummy nose? Say 5 neons and 5 rummy noses?

It would be better to have 6 of each, if you want to mix schooling fish. I would still strongly advise you to keep 10 neons as opposed to splitting the group into two species.

In a 125 you could comfortably have the following:
1m 2f Apistogramma Borelli.
10 Neon/Cardinal tetra.
2 Dwarf Gourami.
5-8 Corydoras.
2 Bristlenose.

providing you have a filter rated above the tank volume, that would be fine :good:

I'd go with maybe juliis, steer away from Bronze corys if you go for 6 or more. Only say that, as bronze aren't particulary small...............or I have giants lol

Ok that's a good suggestion about the corys, thanks BethK.

Question: are corys and bristlenose ok together? Even if I was to get dwarf corys?

cories and bristlenoses are fine together - - just remember that while cories will enjoy playing in the sand, the bristlenoses need plenty of driftwood to rasp on
