I'm looking to upgrade the lid on my 90L, which currently has a flimsy polycarbonate sheet. I've already had a quick look and found companies that sell acrylic sheets, but not to a custom size, which I need.

Do any UK members know a reputable acrylic sheet supplier?

Thanks :)

I have used Plasticsheetsshop.co.uk a few times.
Good prices, easy to use designer and their sizing / cutting is super accurate

Thanks a lot for sharing that site! I did a mock-up lid design, and the cost came to £36 incl shipping! Thats a good deal imo. Other sites I found in the past were quoting me £45-50+

Hi there this might help sheetplastics.co.uk or simplyplastic.com

Funny enough I have just done the same and got a lid for my 21.5"x21.5" footprint tank

I used simplyplastics..com who I cannot recomend highly enough

6mm thickness and 545mm x 545xx was £37 delivered but I was really happy with the quality and the service

I've gotten measurements together, which took longer than expected.. I do wonder what material is a better option. Most of the sites listed have both perspex and acrylic options. What is the better option? Or are they just the same? With one being branded and the other not.

Check with a local glass shop . Most carry acrylic and will cut it to size for you .
I do have a couple of local shops, but they specialise in picture frames and panel sheets. I need cutouts and holes sawed which they don't do sadly.

You don’t have a glass shop that does residential and commercial window glass replacement and repair ? Most carry acrylic in addition to glass for various windows . Maybe it’s just an American thing .

Using the designer on the site @seangee recomended I've managed to get a design that works. Cut outs for canister filter In/outflow, heater cable, Co2 and airline hose. Along with two holes rather than one to remove the lid when doing maintenance. Perspex (3mm) seems to be the cheaper option and has brought the price down to just over £30 incl delivery.

We do have a semi-local place that does repairs/replacements, along with many other things home-related. But they prefer orders of bigger quantity to what I need. Years ago, when I needed a laminate worktop for my custom desk, they said my order was too small, even though it was a 6ft x 2ft piece 🙃

Did you find their thickness calculator? https://plasticsheetsshop.co.uk/thickness-calculator/

I used 5mm fo my panels which were 98x18 cm as the lid is in 2 parts. I did add (acrylic) braces in the center as the long edges would otherwise have been totally unsupported.

Acrylic and perspex are the same thing, you are correct in that one is a brand name. Checked the invoice and that is black extruded (XT) acrylic sheet 5 mm

The 60mm cutout hole (front left) to fit a standard desk tidy grommet as a feeding cover never really worked as it won't open and close smoothly when wet from condensation. But a 45g bugbites tub fits perfectly in the hole :D

Thanks for the link! After a look on reddit I found a user who used 3mm thick perspex lid on a 40cm aquarium, which resulted in it sagging in the middle. I don't have any brace on my tank as it's a rimless. I only have 3d printed clips that hang off the glass to support the lid. I may look into going for a lid that is 5mm + instead.
