Any Advice On Krib Babies?

I found dad ate quite a few, dont know if thats normal or not. Im no expert, so after a few days I put them in a fry net and hoped for the best. About 15 lived to be fully grown. Thats all I know Im afraid!

i can't answer that question but i have one for you.how were the kribs towards the other fish during spawning?i've been afraid to try breeding my kribs because of the horror stories i've heard about how mean they are during breeding.

fortunatly Dnn3 there alone in the tank, so i couldnt tell you, but i myself have heard some crazy stories too about fighting .. ok Becci, thanks for that, ill at least have to wait till i can see them properly, i was just watching them and the mum and dad swam off left a few behind, and the dad came back and ate some ( what a swine i was thinking!) but he took them to the others and spat them back out :) i wouldnt normaly condone spitting, but ill let it pass on this occasion lol

i was at my lfs yesterday and got conflicting answers there.a person who breed them said they never had a problem but another person said they are little terrors.i'm so confused

guess the way in that case is to get fish that are generally considered compatible and have a go,if they do start fighting then be prepared to split them up,i hate getting conflicting opinions, but its natural as everyone has their own :) good luck :)

i have 2 girls that i've had for quite a while.i'm very fond of them so i think i'll just leave them alone.

yes probably best, as you can see in the thread i have been warned to expect this every few weeks - and they cant all live here, no where near enough places to stuff new tanks into

ive bred a fair few different cichlids in my time shelagh!!!

my advice would be to leave them with the parents!! the parents will put the fry in their mouths....but they do this to clean the fry and also to keep them from straying too far away!! once the fry are about 3-5mm in length they will begin to look like actual fish...

this is the best time to move them.. as the parents will get broody again and will forget the older fry....may even attack them.

I think the key point to make is....

First fry batch.... Expect to lose a fair few.....but gain alot of knowledge...

Second fry batch you will be much wiser and know exactly when to move the fry etc.

they should be quite good parents though....so you may get a fair few to grow on.

finally

CONGRATULATIONS

thankyou Peter,ok i dont have a problem leaving them in there for a while, got up really early to check they are still there, and they are, but if i lose some then sobeit,at least i know they are mating :)

cheers nelly :) im keeping a close eye on the mum and dad,and if i see anthing then i will split them up, the fry are now at higher levels of the tank, made me larf ,i was trying to see them at the bottom and there they were right in front of me at the top :) i fed the mum and dad prawn, tho they didnt seem too keen the fry did,and they are taking crushed flake, so fingers crossed all goes well

go to lfs and ask if you can have a microworm culture :good:

easy to keep

porridge and water mix to a gooey consistancy<mircowave 40secs mix again to gooey,,,,add a sprinkling of yeast mix then plonk culture on top,,,,its that easy,,,in a day or two lots of live mirco worms, all small fry and small fish relish it,,,excellent fry food source

my lfs dont sell anything of any use as far as live fod goes, and by the time i hunt some down they would probably have got used to eating something larger, but good thought nelly thanks mate
