I had an ant run across my desk the other day and it made me wonder. Would my fish eat the ant as food?

My Koi ate everything that fell in the pond. I reckon they would have a go, but I don't expect ants taste very nice, they make formic acid, I don't expect that's very appealing on your dinner plate.

yep they would gobble it down happily..... my brother used to have an oscar and any insects he found went in to the oscar

how about fleas? i have a little baby kitten going through the "de-flea" stage right now and they keep jumping on me. i keep picking them off and squishing them between spoons. i maybe try feeding them to my White Clouds. they eat anything small enough to fit in their gobs.
i would give them to my massive shoal of tiger barbs but sadly, i moved out :/ and dont get to see 30 seperate lovely like orange faces :-( its not fair

Don't feed live insects if you are using chemicals to get rid of them.

i dont know about you , but in wales there have been, for some unknown reason, alot of crane flies (daddy long legs), i have alot in my bedroom because i leave my window open, and so i popped 1 in my tank and they loved it lol, they prefer mini spiders though :)

you do kno they have like the most poisonous venom in the animal kingdom. or something like that

Daddy long legs? Not even close... they hardly even have venom...
"They have the strongest venom" is an urban myth. A pretty pathetic one too, even by a myth's standards.
I think it is an Arrow Poison Frog that has the strongest venom, but I could be wrong. :/

But on topic, yes, insects and lightly venomous spiders (wolf spiders, ect.) make a very good food source. However I would stay away from anything that uses acids, stings (obviously) or scents as a defense (red ants, harvestman ( also known as daddy long legs; but not the same thing as the spider), ground beetles and ladybugs, ect). Also, feed small biting insects with caution; if not chewed properly, they can latch onto a fish's throat, causing severe pain and even injury. :X

I always thought the Green Taipan Snake had the most lethal venom.

Cant say I have ever heard of a crane fly having venom, or even being poisonous - my old cat used to eat them if they came in

lol as a motorcyclist you get to eat plenty of them!!! takes while to pick them out your teeth and eyebrows. but other than that. they do no harm. the grass around here is alive with them

I'm pretty sure Joe Whiley on Radio 1 busted that myth last year when she was infested with them!

What about spiders, i have quite a few of those in my house at the moment?

I only have pretty small fish in my tank, you think they'd cope with a crane fly?
