Hey I recently upgraded to a Aqua One UFO 550 100 liter, however due to a couple of my fish being too big for the tank and me wanting some more fish I had a quick look on the internet for some local tanks sold at good prices. I've managed to get an Aqua One UFO 700 which is around 180 liters (still wanted a corner tank). However I have to travel a couple of hours to pick it up so i have a few questions which you guys might be able to help me with.

First of all the person I'm buying it off wants the fish taken off their hands as well, by the sounds of it their fairly big fish (Angels, Silver Shark) now I don't want to keep them as I have my own stock and ideas so I'm going to give them to a pet shop. Now what's the best way to transport them? I used a bag that you get at the LFS to acclimatise my own fish and the larger ones got pretty stressed in the bag, is there a better way of doing this, considering I'm in a car with not a lot of room once the tank and cabinet are in the back. Also do fish shops usually take random fish? Was thinking about finding one local to the seller rather then bringing them 2 hours back then giving them to my local LFS.

My second question is that once a transfer everything over to my new tank, because everything is new and clean and whatnot, I want to keep all of my sand in my tank, is their a quick easy way to get this out without loosing any rather then getting a cup and scooping it all out?

I'm sure there's going to be a few more questions over the next couple of weeks! Thanks in advance!

How about siphoning from one tank to another as the sand will travel in the hose into new tank plus you'll fill water up in new tank

hey thanks for the quick reply! Siphoning out sounds like a good idea, was thinking about doing that.. Problem is it wouldn't go straight into the tank as the new ones going in the old ones spot, looks like I'll have to siphon out into a bucket then straight back into the new tank.

Best way to transport fish is in a large plastic bag, try your LFS and see if they will give you some or sell them to you. Once bagged squeeze them into a cardboard box so they don't roll around and they'll be fine. What I would suggest is to call whichever LFS you are wanting to donate the fish to to make sure they will take them.
As for transferring sand, use a dustpan instead of a cup :)
