Another Severum

well minxy its your fault ive been toying for a while with getting another severum and seeing yours made me go and get 1 today. so now i got myself a little juvie green severum. only thing is hes tiny compared to mine so gonna keep an eye to make sure there is no bullying but mines a pretty laid back guy so it should be ok .

he is one stunner! i might try a severum one day, do they accept tank mates?

from what ive seen of them they seem peaceful enough. my other severum is a mellow boy nothing bothers him and he donesnt bother anything else either even tho he is easily the biggest fish in the tank . plus they do seem to have bags of personality. id reccomend them to anybody with a big enough tank.

what would you say is the minimum tank size, based purely on opinion?

Ahh hes lovely, about the same size as mine, maybe a little bigger, they can grow up 'online' together

Truck they are IME pretty peaceful cichlids and can be kept quite happily with a good range of fish, providing they arent small enough to fit in their mouths once the sev is grown, as with all cichlids you can get the odd evil one who wont accept tankmates, but usually providing you get them young enough and they grow up with others around them your fine, or unless of course you happen to get a pair and they decide to spawn in which case they can get aggressive to protect their young.

My opinion, 55g, they can reach 8+" so need the turning space and swimming room.

i guess it depends what else you want to keep it with some people say 55 gallon my personal opinion is anything 75g upwards mine are in 1 100g 4x2x2 .

should point out when i say 75g upwards im assuming on a good stock of other fish being kept too

Hows yours with the plants now Mark? So far my little chap has had a munch on some frogbit roots, but decided they werent for him and Im going to plant up the new tank with wisteria, vallis and maybe some amazon swords (+ frogbit), Im wondering how long it will all last Plus java fern which I know they wont touch - touch wood

Im just waiting for the phone call from the courier to say when its being delivered, hopefully by Tuesday latest, depends on the weather a lot I guess at the mo, damn snow refuses to go around here.

when he 1st went in he was a complete git for plants he trashed my amazon swords so bad they are only just starting to recover i had a nice big clump of elodea densa ----- lasted about a week . he does still have the odd nibble but hes nowhere near as bad as he used to be. ive got a green berensis he leaves that alone and im going to try some giant valis. the rest of my plants are silk. until you see what hes like i wouldnt bother putting in any plants that either grow like crazy and need lots of pruning ( which he will do fo free ) or ones that are tough as nails
