Another Question

My Nitrate readings are staying really low... in my 2 established tanks...they fluctuate from 1 to 5 ppm...
Is this normal for a newly cycled tank
I was under the impression 10-20 was normal?!!
Worried about my Bacs

is your tap water zero for nitrate?

less than 10ppm nitrate is a good thing. If you have zero ammonia and nitrite then there's nothing to worry about.

There is no normal for nitrate, some fish demand sub 20PPM to thrive and even though a planted will use some it not as much as some people would like to think. Normal community fish will do fine until approx 40ppm then some papers suggest they are more susceptible to ill health. Some fish can live in water with nitrate of 200ppm it just not something we do in the hobby
