Another One Bites The Dust!

I have found that the Salifert KH/Alkalinity test kit is one of the best. I am at present using some api test kits that I wish I had bought Salifert.

Don't get me wrong the freshwater mastertest kit is brilliant.

I would think even the API kit is a titration test, usually with the titration tests the sooner it goes (7 drops is quick) the softer the water. Does the Instructions anywhere tell you whether that is in dKH, or whether there is any maths you need to to do get a specific unit.

i see

i would like it softer and have softening pillows but they dont seem to do much

also an update: the 3 gbr's left got ALOT brighter and more active now that the ones gone
thier black stripes are nice and dark again also thier blue is much brighter

just a chart that converts drops to ppm

I would go for what Tolak said then, use extra dechlor for a while. It may be an idea to run some carbon in the filter for 2 or 3 days, just incase (that brightness may indicate there is something in the water, they can do that) it will not do any harm at all and may help the matter. Leave it a week or two, try getting another ram, try and buy from somewhere different. Whilst you are acclimatising rearrange the tank to destroy the present territories. Add the fish with the lights off, this will force all of the rams to reclaim new territories. Mine hate me when I rearrange the tank, but it really does work.

At times, if the water supply company think there is a risk, they will add extra chlorine or chloramine and can actually swap from to chlorine to chloramine. Chloramine requires more dechlor than chlorine to neutralize it. If the company double or triple the amount of chlorine they put in the water it takes double or triple the amount of declor to neutralise it. Examples of reasons why include weekends (Tolak gave a reason for this a while ago) heavy snow defrosting, certain times of year in the agricultural calendar etc.

my big male is bullying the little male away from his wife. he seems to be losing color and she doesnt seem to mind. should i see who she likes then take in the odd ball male? should i keep all 3? i had 4 gbr's but want to get down to 2 and add some apistogramma agassizi or cockatoo (1M to 2or3F whats better) which ever i can get ahold of first will this stock be ok?

She will probably prefer the winner of the fighing over her, it will come down to the dominant male, she wants the most dominant to be father of her babies as would happen in nature.

Probably better to take the one losing colour back before it comes to any harm.
