Hi Ronnie, welcome to the forums :hi:

I was told exactly the same as you when I had my first tank, but unfortunately I already had a couple of fish before I read about the fishless cycling! Most people on this forum will advise you to do a fishless cycle as this way no fish a put through any unnecessary stress/harm. Have a look at this thread as there is some really useful information (I hope it works!)

Any questions you have just ask, everyone here is really helpful! :good:

Sorry, I don't think I put that very well. Basically with a fishless cycle you add ammonia to your tank (you can buy this from a shop) instead of fish until the tank had cycled. I don't know how long a fishless cycle takes but it will be a few weeks, then it is safe to add fish (once the ammonia and nitrite read 0). Read the fishless cycle page on the link I gave before, it gives you all of the information you need on there.

If you are asking what fish is best to add after the fishless cycle then I will leave that to someone else as I'm not too sure!

hi pal and weelcome to the forum

I;d suggest that neons aren't hardy enough to be starter fish

whenever I start a new tank I always use zebra danios as starter fish and they're nice active fish anyway

cheers for all the answers people
