I have limited space under my hood for lighting and have limited resources for upgrading. I currently have 2 lightsets in parallel with reflectors (1x40w & 1x30w+1x20w, 90w total). One option I can afford and go with is to run 4x40w (160w total) but without reflectors (if I remove them I can fit in another 2 tubes in parallel) - cost around £60. This will not only increase my total wattage but will also mean I'm running 2 double ballasts instead of 3 single ones. I've looked at getting 2xdouble interpet t5 55w setups but just can't afford the cost of around £130+.

The question I have is how much difference do reflectors actually make? I've seen comments such as "double the intensity" etc but is this true?

What reflecters have you got on there ?

Some i hear are rubbish anyway ie hagen ones that come fittted on all fluval tanks?

Sorry i cant be of much help

2 arcadia ones behind the 24" (20w) and 36" (30w) tubes and a juwel one behind the 48" (40w) tube. THey get cleaned regularly btw

Hagen tanks that come with reflectors?

The ones I have seen (including mine) came fitted with white plastic inserts that bend into a sort of moulded clip in the hood and only go over the top and recess side of the lights and not around the other side of the light)

In otherwords b*****ks.

Arcadia are the ones I fitted too. Work a treat.
