I have a 29 gallon tank that has been set up for about 3 and a half months now. The stocking is 2 angels (not sure if its a pair or same sexes), 5 cories, 1 talking catfish, 2 mystery snails, and one lemon tetra (all of its buddies died, and I've decided not to replace them).

I'd like to add another type of fish to the mix. Originally I had some dwarf gouramis, but didn't know about the disease issues at the time and I went through 4 of them before I gave up on them. I like the larger gouramis but I'm not sure they'd be okay in my size tank.

I'd like to add another pair of largish fish (not as big as the angels, but bigger than the cories and tetra) or possibly a school of smaller fish (as long as the catfish won't be able to eat them).

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks

ok, an australian rainbow fish is nice, cheap and very peacful. you might want to try it. i would suggest 4 because they are schooling fish.

Australians get quite big, almost 4 inches. And are really active fish and need a 50gal tank minimum. I don't know where you live, but around me all rainbows large and small go for more than $10 each.

thats bazarr. in manitoba, canada, australians go for 2 $ and they only seem to be 2"

Yep in the US your lucky to find any below $10 IMO, from what I have seen and I have been told this is normal.
Australians and boeseamis at 2" go for $12-$15 depending where you get them
Wild adult male boeseamis at 3.5" go for $40 each(they were gourgous)
Threadfin rainbows at 1" tend to go for $10 each
Pseudomugil signifer & Pseudomugil gertrudae at 1" go for $10-$12
I have never seen any below $10, this is because it is hard to raise the fry and takes at least 6 months for them to get big enough to sell. They are nice hardy fish and it can be worth while to breed them in the US.

Try a petsmart if you're looking for autralian rainbows, I'm not sure if the US carries the same stock as the petsmarts in Canada. But rainbows there go for $2.59 each, I work there ^_^

your absoloutly right. so your screwed unless you live in canada for rainbows. lol

I've considered neon rainbows. Do you know anything about them?

Also, what is the personality of the German Rams like? I like the way they look, and some blue would look great in my mostly yellow and gray tank.

Neon dwarf rainbows are the same as Australian rainbows (I'm pretty sure anways- about 66%).

German rams are nice, semi-peacfuly fish. They are classified as Semi-agressive, but I'd think they'd be fine with your fish.

Don't take gouramis as they occupy the same space as your angels. Rams should be fine as they are more bottom-mid dweller fish.

Personally I love congo tetras; colourful and bigger than the average ones. They need a tank of at least 90 cm though, and I do not know whether your 29 gallon meets that size.

I have a 29 gallon with 2 angels, 3 cories, 1 Siamese flying fox.

Keep it simple....
