I'm Running a 100W In My 30 Gallon Tank Which I Just Got Up And Running. If I Run It Full Blast Im Sure It'll Overheat the tank but seeing as my heater has no label as to what temp it is set at what is the best way to get it to the correct temp. Im thinking since its only 100w that its going to have to be set a bit higher then what it would if it were in tank that were meant for a 100w like a 20G ( following the 5w per g )

Also "Stress Zyme" Made By Tetra Claims To Have Beneficial Bacteria To Help Jumpstart The Cycling Process. Does anyone know if this stuff actually helps or if its all a load of garbage

I would get a new heater, I wouldn't trust one that has no temperature marking.

"Stress Zyme" is a good dechlorinator and nothing more. Other than Bio-Spira (which is expensive and must be kept refridgerated), there is no reliable "bacteria additive". Please, fishless cycle.

If you can't afford a new heater, I guess you'll just have to experiment. Leave it running for 24 hours and see what temperature your tank is at, and either adjust it up or down as needed.

PLEASE dont tell me you bought one of those "aquatic Gardens" brand heaters
if you did go return/exchange it right now for something a few dollars more, that brand is owned by petco and the heaters are lowest quality you can get, and you are considered lucky if it lasts for more than a month without killing your fish
like 95% of the reviews rate those heaters extremely low (around 1 or 2 out of 5)
i had a 50watt one for my 10G tank and the rubber end cap melted all over my tank and killed a few fish within 3 weeks of having it

anyways, back to your question
i dont recomend putting it on full blast right away, turn it 1 notch every few hours and keep monitoring the temperature
as for stress zyme, never used and doesnt seem like its going to help because beneficial bacteria need some kind of food to stay alive and also oxygen, so if there is any beneficial bacteria in that bottle its most likely dead

just do a fishless cycle

i pulled it out of the tank and it was hot enough that it gave me a blister on my finger when i touched it. I put in a different heater that had listed temp settings but i have no clue as to what wattage it is its like maybe 8" long and its made by weipro are these any good?

i havent heard of weipro but that aquatic gardens heater is dead
i had the same problem, except once i took my heater out of the water it started smoking from the bottom and rubber end cap melted
the worst part is my Ottos loved sucking the algae off of it and unfortunately i lost one from that heater incident

if the heater is 8in theres really no telling how many watts it is because heaters come in all different sizes
it should tell you on the heater how many watts it is

if you have doubts about that one go out and get a marineland one, ive heard nothing but good things about those heaters and picked up one for myself just yesterday, and it seems to keep the temperature at around 80degrees 24hours a day

i turned it on yesterday and set it at 80F and havent touched it yet and the temp is at 80 just like it should be, it varies about .5degrees every once in a while but does its job very well
