Another Fish Now Not Doing Well :-(

There is no visible fungus anywhere on her body, I have checked her all over with a magnifying glass and she is in the hospital tank!

(this reads a bit snotty to me but its not meant to be!!!)

If there no signs of darting, erratic swimming, laboured breathing, flicking and rubbing, excess mucas or slime, it dosn't sound like a parasite involved.

It it's a bad strain of columnaris you really need antibitoics in issolation.

Does the fish look skinny or bloated?

She did start to look skinny as she wasnt eating, now she is picking at food again she has gained back her shape but definately not bloated, but will keep a good check on that as she does not appear to be eating much, but without watching every minute of the day its hard to see lol. Her colour has come back again today! and looks in general to be healthy?. I am going to keep her isolated for the time being and run another course of meds.

Ok.
Good Luck.

Update: Gourami still with me, colour keeps comming and going, now found a tiny white furry bump?, just under the dorsal fin where the line of discolouration starts obviously some bacterial problem, dont know why the meds are not working unless she is further "gone" than first thought.

my girl betta looked like that and it was columinaris.

i also used mytaxin, did a water change in 2 days (as told) and redosed on day 4. kept this up til she was better.

hope shes ok

p.s. what happened to the tank to upset / make the fish ill?

I am starting to think the fish must have been ill to start with, I accidently knocked the brace bar off on my tank while filling it up and the shock wave upset the whole tank and started off ammonia problems! Warning look where ya swinging ya bucket!

The problem with lfs meds is that they only treat mild bacteria infections.

If it's a bad strain of columnaris you need antibiotics which are only available in the uk from a vet.

You could try esha 2000.

Cheers Wilder, I have to go to the vet next week with the dog, I will ask (I think he will give me a funny look though lol) If not I can try the chap I use for the turtles, I have had antibiotics for them before. Not fun giving needles to a grumpy turtle!

I think I am sadly loosing the battle though, she is making an effort to feed but very little and (this is going to sound silly) she seems to be getting smaller in general body length? I dont know whether it would be kinder to uthanise. Will see what the vet says first before I make that decision.

can you not call the vet before next week? by what you say I don't think she'll last that week, sounds like she is eating her own bodyfat etc - poor girl

Bless Her.
I agree next week will be to late for the vet.
If she goes downhill any further I would end her misery.
Soak her food in garlic juice to stimulate appetite, and boost her immune system.

My vet wsnt much use only a small animal practice and the reptile vet I use is back at the practice tomorrow, sadly its too late, she was looking great all day again today lovely colour, but she crashed to the bottom of the tank about half an hour ago, I righted her and held her in the net but realised it was just too late so ended up doing the right thing.

Goodnight sweetie, RIP.

Forgot to say. Thank you so much for your help Wilder.

Ok bless her. You tryed your best.
Seen it before, they look better for aday only to go down hill again.

Bless Her.
R.I.P.
