Yes, I'm hoping for a school of P. brevis at some point, but I want to get them from my LFS if possible (I have probably a couple hundred $ in store credit from selling them surplus plants). They're interesting fish, with that kink in the spine. Any other species, I'd figure they were deformed or diseased, but these little guys just look cool and unique.

Almost tempting to get 10 for breeding purpose but would require a 40b kept at around 72 degree - in my climate during the summer it will easily see 78+

I was given a P. brevis along with some other little loaches (Y. cruciatus). Cool fish I wish I had more of. If you ask nicely enough, your lfs may get them for you since you're a "regular". Our winter is "loach season" in the US. Ask soon! 12 fish are often their "minimum order" so if you can, ask for them all if you have room. They're quite small.

My LFS had been trying to find them for me. The problem isn't them, it's their supplier. But if TWS has them back in stock, maybe they won't be far behind.

Sorry, what is TWS? An importer (transworld shipping?)? I'm eating dinner so not clicked in.

Don't forget to look for a "common" name. Sometimes, that's the best we can do. We're barely into loach winter shipping. Be patient! Maybe check Wet Spot, but it'd be nice to use your plant credit. Ship to store? You can only ask...

Good loach luck!

Of course if your lfs doesn't get them and you wait till wetspot sells out you might miss out for years as they are an endangered species do to changes to their very limited environment.

Overhere, they offer these fish regularly. I also have them. Overhere they reach 2-3 inches. They've got a good home at my place. For sometimes I do hear that 2 inches is the max. When I got them first, they were only less than an inch.
They do like to hide a lot. And they tend to shoal.

@anewbie Based on my reading, this species isn't endangered according to the IUCN realist, but they're considered vulnerable due to habitat change. You're right about uncertain availability, though. I'm going to have to take my chances though; we aren't exactly rolling in cash around here. :)

@fishorama : TWS = The Wet Spot.

Sorry, I never think of the Wet Spot by any other name, lol.

I wonder if the import tariff thing is affecting some fish import availability. Not in a political way, just a loach & Asiatic fish loving way.

The 1 I had I'd call a "sellers' 2 inches" but maybe not fully "adult". Some fish take longer to reach adult size & some continue to grow. I always thought smaller fish reach adult breeding size in a year-ish but that's not necessarily true.
