Ok Betts luvers how does this sound.

I havn't had the need to use dividers myself as yet but looking into getting a panaramic tank and using dividers.

Don't know about you but I rather think that the dividers that are currently on the market look a little, well mechanical.
Ok for shops and that but not as a display item in the home (well they are, arn't they?)

My idea is getting one of the mesh style ones either shop bought or DIY'ed and dressing it to look more natural.

My thinking is getting some aquarium safe slate chips or similar and applying a blob of Aqua silicone to the mesh and squeezing a slate chip either side. Or, if you lay the mesh down over several pieces of slate that have a blob of silicone already on them then as the silicone squeezes through the mesh then place another slate on top of it.

When cured you will end up with a slate 'wall' that will obvously still have plenty of gaps for water to pass through and will look tons better (I think)

How about then fixing some Java Fern/Moss to it......? Where to get slate chips I hear some asking. Well I have used some well washed and vinegar tested chipping from B&Q or Homebase (that is used for garden path decorating) in my tanks in the past with no problems at all. :good:

PS, I know this should have gone in the Hardware section but they might laugh at me over there

thing is u must make sure it is stable

also the gaps must be really small bcoz bettas will squeeze thru anything

nice idea tho

It would work if you stick them onto plexiglass but not the plastic flexible mesh as it would just fall over, if you have the patience to put them onto plexiglass and secure the plexiglass inside the tank as well, then happy days. I know I wouldn't have the patience OR the skill!

Yeah but the mesh is still there and as the chips are only mm's thick there is nothing to get through? Also, you normally should fix the mesh to the glass with something (silicone)

Yeah she's buzzing :p but the weight of all those chips would make the mesh unstable unless it was plexiglass

what about making a moss wall? they take a little while to get started, but once fully grown look fantastic! you could use the firm large mesh to strengthen it, and then use a fairly fine mesh either side to hold the moss in place. the water would still pass through the gaps and around the moss, but looks loads more natural. :good:

You would fix it to the glass with silicone to stop it falling over  Girls! Also, the mesh dividers, don't they have a sort of frame around the outside to keep them rigid?

i missed the bit about the mesh lol

buzzing? mel lol im not sure what u mean lol

buzzing....went over my head too!

Those mesh dividers that have a sort of frame around them to keep it rigid would be best

i think its deffo worth a go, and would look awesome, altho i do love the idea of a moss wall

Nice idea. I know exactly what you mean, I did something similar for a cave.

Ignore these senceless women poking holes in your plans. :shifty:

ahaha u cheeky sod, we wasnt lol, just maybe we didnt read the post properly

women eh lol

I knowwwwwww they have frames and you silicone it to the glass etc. but I am telling ya, if you stick all that slate to a flimsy bit of plastic, it will render it wobbly and vulnerable. USE PLEXIGLASS :p or make a moss wall!

I think a moss wall is the best idea.

Oooh, if i had a neverending stock of moss and shrimp, I'd die a happy man.

lol dorsey i think the moss wall is a brill idea

hmmm esfa u r one crazy man lol  :p
