I got this tank this morning from the boot sale (I'm a week or so in to cycling my other bargain) it came with a heater (brand new in packet Hagen 100 watt aquaclear 20) it says up to 100 litre tank, this tank is an Elite 95 100 litre (I think) also it came with a filter and a few ornaments, I listened to what others had said and filled it with non treated tap water to clean it and letting it all run. The filter is an Elite too, guessing it was a beginners kit thing, the filter is quite noisey compared to my Fluval U2 in my other tank, any one had any experience of this are they suppoased to sound like that ? When I say noisey sounds a bit like an electric sound from a kitchen flurecent light when it's on (not too noisey, but compared to my U2) just noticeable.
Also are under gravel filters any good, I am thinking of using one with this tank along with a power head I already have (got that for 50p) ?
Are they ok to use with plants ?
Many thanks for your help.

Try putting the filter upside down in the water and jiggling it and see if any air comes out, my filter is always noisy after a water change because it gets air trapped in it, so I have to do this to make it quiet.:good:

Decent shout.

Under gravel filters are quite "old" methods of filtration and although work perfectly fine, do require you to spend a little more time maintaining the tank. Not something i would use these days to be frank.
