hey

i recently got a african butterfly cichlid from a friend because i gave him some glass catfish that i didnt want anymore.

the butterfly had been leaving in a 20 gal with a SAE and 2 rams and a bnose plec.

it wasnt aggresive at all so i decided to take him today and put him in my 35gal dwarf cichlid community. after climatizing him he started searching around and made friends with my gold ram :)

but now he just nips at anything that gets in his way. is this normal?? and i have been reading up and it says that it can be kept with small tetras but all he does is nip at my fish

any info i missed out?

thanx in advance

Info is pretty scarce on them. :/

I have two in a 29g, but they don't really bother non-cichlids. But I've never kept them with tetras. The smallest fish I've had with them were 1" baby swordtails. They pretty much ignore them.

The dominant, of the two I own, won't back down to the juvie female con I have in the tank. :flex: (the con will be moved to a 55g, very soon). They can be tough little buggers.

How does it get along with your other cichlids?

Sorry, I can't be of more help, maybe try to re-arrange the tank. :/

Congrats anyway. They are very beautiful fish once they get settled in. They change colors quite frequently. They are definatly among my favorite fish.

thanx

well he was king of his old tank but i dont think my bolivians will stand down to him

so he started off bynipping at them constantly untill my key holes ganged up on him

so now hes fine. no inmjuries what so ever. so i think it was just friendly nipping

mine has finally come out to play, he went from hiding and barely eating to cruising around and eating crickets from my hand in the space of about 24 hours after being in the tank for almost 6 weeks. he doesn't bother any of my other fish, just pretty much ignores them.
