In my reseach, I was trying to figure out what general classification freshwater angel fish fall under.

An online fish store has them under Cichlids, but I'm not exactly sure if where they originate: Amazon from what I can find/South America?

I'm jump starting my research for the fish I wish to keep and currently had:

Angels (although I'm not exatly sure which veriaties yet. Any suggestions are greatly welcome)
Gouramis (probably 4 golds, 4 blues, and thinking of some Sunsets or maybe a Fire Red or even some Blue Neons)
Tetras (I currently have some black skirts and will probably get some more)
Cats (still research best tank mate for other fish)
Crabs (red claws and gold fiddlers)
Crayfish (as long as I can provide a nice cave and he/she doesn't cause too many problems with the other fish)

All going in to a planted 90 gal.

sounds cool. and yes angels are cichlids they go under the family Cichlidae but are alot more timid then your average African Cichlid. they do originate from South America. as for the cat fish maybe some Cory Cats would do good in your tank. they are very frendliy and play with each other, keep them in biger groups. woops forgot to mention, the only thing is the Cray fish would probly eat them...well maybe a pleco would do better but any smaller catfish you get will probly get attacked by the cray fish since most catfish are bottom dwellers...

any slow moving fish a crayfish can get its claws on will be lunch. Also any old or sick and dying fish will be lunch too. Rumor has it the angels will eat the tetras , i've never owned angels but i have read it on here quite a few times. Something you might want to look into thats pretty neat looking and to replace the crawfish is the bamboo shrimp , a local store has some and there pretty neat looking.
